Informative Text - Recount

Description of activity

Students draft a simple recount of an excursion or event.  They use handwriting or a word processing program.

Context

Students have been learning about how ideas can be conveyed through pictures and words. They have participated in joint constructions of informative texts to retell an experience. Students were asked to compose an informative text using pictures and words to retell an experience.

Outcomes

ENe-2A composes simple texts to convey an idea or message
ENe-3A produces most lower case and upper case letters and uses digital technologies to construct texts
ENe-5A demonstrates developing skills in using letters, simple sound blends and some sight words to represent known words when spelling
ENe-7B recognises some different purposes for writing and that own texts differ in various ways
ENe-9B demonstrates developing skills and knowledge in grammar, punctuation and vocabulary when responding to and composing texts
ENe-11D responds to and composes simple texts about familiar aspects of the world and their own experiences

 

Criteria for assessing learning

(These criteria would normally be communicated to students with the activity.)
Students will be assessed on their ability to:

  • use a basic recount text structure
  • use action verbs, adverbs, conjunctions and past tense
  • use appropriate sentence structure and punctuation
  • use strategies to spell words correctly
