Early Stage 1 - Activity 2

informative text - procedure

Description of activity

Students write or illustrate an informative text using a scaffold provided by the teacher.

Context

Students have been learning about how ideas are conveyed through pictures and words. They have listened to spoken texts and read informative texts that explain the steps to carry out a task. Students have jointly constructed informative texts that presented a series of steps. They were then asked to compose a short piece of writing accompanied by pictures to explain a simple process.

Outcomes

ENe-2A composes simple texts to convey an idea or message
ENe-3A produces most lower case and upper case letters and uses digital technologies to construct texts
ENe-5A demonstrates developing skills in using letters, simple sound blends and some sight words to represent known words when spelling
ENe-7B recognises some different purposes for writing and that own texts differ in various ways
ENe-9B demonstrates developing skills and knowledge in grammar, punctuation and vocabulary when responding to and composing texts

Criteria for assessing learning

(These criteria would normally be communicated to students with the activity.)
