Informative Text - report

Description of activity

Students write an informative text about an animal they have studied and discussed in class.

Context

Students have explored a variety of informative texts and discussed how pictures and words create meaning. They have viewed short clips on animals in the wild and discussed information gathered from this source. Students then wrote an informative piece of writing that conveyed information about the animal.

Outcomes

ENe-2A composes simple texts to convey an idea or message
ENe-3A produces most lower case and upper case letters and uses digital technologies to construct texts
ENe-5A demonstrates developing skills in using letters, simple sound blends and some sight words to represent known words when spelling
ENe-7B recognises some different purposes for writing and that own texts differ in various ways
ENe-9B demonstrates developing skills and knowledge in grammar, punctuation and vocabulary when responding to and composing texts

 

Criteria for assessing learning

(These criteria would normally be communicated to students with the activity.)
Students will be assessed on their ability to:

  • write a simple information report
  • use sentences to structure ideas
  • use strategies to spell familiar words
  • use NSW Foundation Style handwriting or a word-processing program.
